Ennek hatására változik az éghajlatunk. Az egyik ilyen változás az aszályos időszakok szaporodása. Emellett a rövid idő alatt lezúduló, nagy mennyiségű csapadék is egyre gyakrabban fordul elő. Hatására belterületi elöntés vagy villámárvíz jöhet létre, amely az épületeket, a közlekedési és más infrastruktúrát egyaránt veszélyezteti. Az az ésszerű válasz a kihívásokra, ha a lehulló csapadék lefolyását lassítjuk, lehetőség szerint tároljuk a vizet, amit a száraz időszakokban öntözésre használunk.

A villámárvizek és az aszályok hatásainak csökkentésért mi is tehetünk házunkban, kertünkben. Csökkentsük a zárt burkolatok nagyságát, használjunk vízáteresztő burkolatot, legyen minél nagyobb a füves, bokros rész a ház körül. Tisztítsuk rendszeresen az ereszt, használjunk lombfogót. Gyűjtsük tartályba az esővizet, amit száraz időben locsolásra tudunk használni. Kerti tavat is kialakíthatunk erre a célra, amely az élővilág sokszínűségét növeli. A kiskertben alkalmazzunk mulcsolást, ez nemcsak a kiszáradástól véd, de a gyomosodást is csökkenti. Komposztáljuk otthon a háztartásban, kertben keletkező zöldhulladékot. Vigyázzunk, hogy olaj, méreg, szennyező anyag semmiképp se kerüljön a talajba vagy a szennyvíz-, illetve az esővízgyűjtő csatornába!

Újpest Önkormányzata maga is segíti a lakossági erőfeszítéseket, dr, Trippon Norbert alpolgármester úr kezdeményezésére esővízgyűjtő tartály osztás indult kerületünkben.

A Fenntarthatóság Felé Egyesület és a Magyar Természetvédők Szövetsége lakossági tájékoztatójában még sok hasznos ötletet gyűjtött össze, amelyek a www.ffegyesulet.hu/esoviz oldalon érhetők el.
